”Forensic Testing Services specialise in drug and alcohol testing and the associated consultation, reporting and expert services for the cost effective identification and assessment of drug and alcohol misuse. Unlike other providers, their collectors are employed and fully trained by FTS, managing the whole process through from arranging appointments directly with the client to ensure the speediest sample collection possible, arranging appointments at a clients office, the clients’ home or suitable venue, and collecting hair, blood or urine samples. This process provides assurance of sample quality and control of the sample collection, preparation and shipment, ensuring that FTS provide consistently excellent sampling quality, good donor experience and reliable service delivery.
TLC were approached by the Operations Director of FTS to assist with the integration of an in-house fleet operation. To provide a foundation for both fantastic service and to be the lead provider in their industry, FTS requested that TLC conduct a full gap-review to ensure that future fleet operations would be in line with both current legislation and approved good working practices. TLC conducted a full process review, identified opportunities for improvement, and generated a bespoke ‘Drivers Handbook’ for implementation by the business that included VOR process, vehicle checks, licence check procedures and operational guidelines. A TLC consultant spent a day ‘out on the road’ with an FTS team to see at first hand the processes and procedures being utilised by both the driver / chaperone and the sample collectors.

”Founded in July 2019, ITCH Pet is a pet wellbeing organisation that offers a bespoke and personalised service to domestic pet owners via a flea and wormer treatment subscription service. This direct to consumer business recently secured an additional £7.25M in funding following an initial £5M start-up investment. ITCH now ships to over 110,000 pets per month across the UK. With a monthly customer growth rate of 10-20 per cent, the firm is on track to reach c.£10m+ in annual recurring by year end 2020. Paired with strong unit economics, sales are projected to exceed c.£50 million next year and £200 million-plus in the coming three years.
TLC were engaged to partner with the start-up initiative with a scope that included sourcing and negotiating a facility that would provide an adequate base of operations for the initial 5 year term; an operational evaluation resulting in delivering a fit for purpose manual fulfilment solution, and to take the lead on sourcing a fully automated solution in preparation for the next phase of both growth and investment.

”MonsterPetSupplies are a leading online pet store, stocking and distributing over 7500 products to pet owners in the UK mainland. Established by two brothers over 10 years again, the Leeds-based business has experienced growth of over 30% year on year but began to experience operational issues as volume continued to increase.
The business enlisted the support of TLC to assist in streamlining the operation to handle the increased activity whilst also developing a plan that allowed the operation to scale-up in line with future demand. We conducted a full product portfolio review and proposed the removal of 1000 SKU’s that were not adding value to the business. This increased free-space in the distribution centre and allowed efficiency to be increased by improving the slotting protocols and increasing pick compression. Once this phase was completed, we moved to review the warehouse operation and suggested improvements to the MHE fleet, management and monitoring of colleagues, and also determined a comprehensive and relevant portfolio of operational KPI’s. The scope of the brief also included a distribution service review in which TLC negotiated aggressive carton rates with an alternative carrier, delivering annualised savings of £140k

Remit: TLC were engaged to conduct a review of the transport operation with specific focus on their national trunking network. The review included analysis of the existing running costs, delivery points, dwell times and trailer utilisation. The objective was to generate a cost reduction initiative and develop an opportunity to maximise the utilisation of the fleet. By working closely with the transport management team we were able to identify and deliver annualised savings of over £83k and delivered an additional £26k per year direct to the bottom line by adopting a structured approach to back-loading without affecting the customer promise.
